Security
The security architecture employed by e-know.net allows us to offer a comprehensive and extremely secure service using a host of different secure methods within the different areas of services delivered.
The e-know.net service is structured from the ground-up with every aspect of security issues built into the infrastructure of the core service design.
We utilise many technologies to eliminate potential breaches of security:
SSL (Secure Socket Layers)
Our infrastructure of services always starts with our Web Servers. Immediate security is put into place on all areas of our Internet Web Servers using encryption routines through
SSL.
SSL is a set of rules followed by computers connected to the Internet. These rules include encryption, which guards against eavesdropping; data integrity, which assures that your communications aren't tampered with during transmission; and authentication, which verifies that the party actually receiving your communication is who it claims to be.
e-know.net operates with SSL signature files from VeriSign, the world leader in SSL security.
So how does this encryption work?
At e-know.net we use the strongest method of 128-bit encryption. It is virtually impossible for an unauthorized party to find the right key, even if they are equipped with the best computers.
Mail Servers - Can unauthorized people read my email?
At e-know.net we use the S/MIME (Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) protocol, an industry standard supported by the latest email programs and web browsers, including Netscape Communicator. S/MIME incorporates digital certificates, the online passports that authenticate the identity of an e-mail’s sender and receiver, verify message integrity, and ensures the privacy of the message's content.
Application & Database Servers - SecureICA™ Protocol Architecture
Once a connection is being established to our services using the application or database model, the use of SecureICA using Citrix Technologies comes into force via the web server.
The Independent Computing Architecture (ICA) is a modular architecture. The encryption layer is negotiated at connect time between the Win Frame/ MetaFrame server and Win Frame/MetaFrame client.
What is encrypted?
SecureICA™ encryption is applied to the entire ICA packet. Except for a small encryption header, all of the ICA commands and data are encrypted. This includes:
- Keystrokes
- Mouse data
- Graphic information
- Client drive data
- Client printer data
Backup Procedures
One of luxuries of an ASP IT solution is that you never have to worry about back-ups again. e-know.net have procedures in place to ensure that adequate back-ups are available in the unlikely event of a failure in equipment at our Server Farm, and that the recovery of such data is efficient and timely.
The systems are periodically backed up during the day, evening and night 7 days per week.
Backup tapes are maintained so that at any time you can go back to certain points in time.
- Daily incremental backups - held for 1 week
- Weekly full backups - held for 1 month
- Monthly full backups - held for 1 year
- Yearly backups – held for 5 years
All external backups are made to high capacity DLT (Digital Linear Tape) and stored in a secure fireproof safe at a separate location to the server farm.
As part of system management procedures the technical team monitors the success of each backup routine.
